Introduction to Mini-Rugby
Mini-Rugby is played by boys and girls aged from 6 to 12. Players must have reached their 6th birthday to compete in games but training is available for five year olds if their 6th birthday falls within the season. Mini-Rugby introduces the players to skills of Rugby and hopefully encourages them to go on to play the fifteen side game.
Age groups are divided into the following categories.
Under 7s, Under 8s, Under 9s, Under 10s, Under 11s, Under 12s.
Ages are determined by the age of the player on the 1st of September. For example if a player is aged 8 on that date they will play Under 9s for that season.
Age groups are run by experienced and qualified coaches. Close attention is given to each player’s ability, size and confidence.
Ashford Rugby Club is committed to Mini-Rugby and recognises this is the future of Rugby in Ashford.
Subscription rates for this coming season are £30.00 per player to a maximum of £60.00 for two or more players with non-playing parents, in a family playing within the Mini/Midi or Junior sections. This also entitles parents/guardian to be social members of the club.
Mini-Rugby at Ashford is run by our co-ordinator Steve Kellam. If you have any questions about this section of the club you can contact Steve by emailing skellam@supanet.com or phone 01233 635724 mobile 07859 079 287
All our coaches would greatly receive any assistance the parents can give during training. From passing a few balls to holding tackle bags and shields. Mums and Dad’s.
I would also like to draw your attention to the following request. Players are urged to be sportsman like in their approach to Rugby at Ashford, and in the past have proved to be. Rugby at this level cannot take place without volunteers. All those connected with Mini/Midi rugby throughout the country do it for the love of the game and wanting to pass this on to the youngsters. I would ask all parents to also respond in this way. Whether it be a referee or an opposition coach, we are all bound to make mistakes somewhere along the line.
During the season there will be a number of social events in the club house. Some of these will be run by the mini/midi section. Please, feel free to use the club house. The club is open on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for senior training but anyone who wishes to come down for a drink is welcome. Remember this is your club.
